Applying for a passport in India is now easier and faster with online processes, minimal paperwork, and real-time tracking. Whether you’re applying for the first time or renewing, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process in 2025.

This guide covers how to apply for a fresh passport through the official Passport Seva system.

1. 🌐 Register on Passport Seva Portal

Visit the official site: passportindia.gov.in. Click on “Register Now” and create your account using your email and mobile number.

2. 📝 Login and Fill the Application Form

Login to the portal and select “Apply for Fresh Passport/Reissue of Passport”. Fill in all required personal details like name, address, educational qualification, and emergency contact.

3. 📅 Schedule an Appointment

After submitting the form, choose your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or POPSK (Post Office PSK), and book an available time slot for your appointment.

4. 💳 Pay the Application Fee

The fee for a 36-page normal passport is ₹1,500. Make the payment online via UPI, debit/credit card, or net banking. Save the receipt.

5. 📄 Visit the PSK with Documents

Visit the PSK/POPSK at your scheduled time with the following documents:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Voter ID or PAN Card (as additional ID)
  • Proof of address (utility bill, bank passbook, etc.)
  • Birth certificate (if under 18)

6. 🧾 Complete Biometric and Verification

At the PSK, you’ll go through document verification, photograph, and biometric capture (fingerprints and signature).

7. 🏠 Police Verification

A police officer from your local station will visit your home for address verification within a few days of the PSK visit.

8. 📬 Track and Receive Your Passport

You can track the status of your application online. Once processed and approved, the passport is dispatched via India Post and typically delivered within 7–14 working days.
